WEEK 1
Part 1
After good results with CBD products in my own exercise and life, I decided to attempt to use some CBD oil for dogs to help improve some aspects of my own dog’s life. Janie has been with me for a year now and has come a long way, as she was a very reactive dog when I first brought her home from the shelter. Other dogs excited her and made her go crazy. She has come a long way, but my hope is with some CBD regiment she may see some calming effects that help her to play with other dogs. She is a young dog and very active so I don’t expect to see much in the way of joint health as she is very healthy. One thing upon opening the packaging and applying a first test dose was that some of the instructions on the box indicated dosing for humans, possibly an error at the manufacture or packaging facility, despite this dosing and drawing up was very straight forward. The stopper and accompanying syringe were easy to use and apply the .5ml dose I decided on to my dog sublingually. On Tuesday I took Janie to a dog park with one of her singular male dog friend’s Bruce, another big pitbull mix. I dosed Janie with .5ml approximately an hour before going to the park. We, unfortunately, couldn’t make it to the park in the AM due to the snow falling, but Janie had a good day and seemed very relaxed at home and snuggled up in a blanket den she has in her kennel. I am hoping to introduce her to more dogs and people on the CBD to help alleviate some of her excessive hyperactivity when doing so. She can get so riled up with other dogs and people, I am hoping this will help her be a bit more calm and let people approach her more. All Janie really wants is everyone to pet her. While the claims of this product do not cover it, I am hopeful it will help with some of the inflammation my poor girl gets trudging through the ice and salt on the sidewalks this time of year. As a test Friday afternoon I dosed Janie again with .5ml and let her relax for an hour, after which we went to McGuckins (a local hardware store) again, this time with her snow boots on. Normally Janie won’t wear these boots for more than a couple minutes, but we had them on today for over an hour. I can’t say for sure, but I think the CBD calmed her down enough to: A) let me touch her feet enough to get the boot on well, and B) kept her calm enough while they were on and stopped her from trying to fling them off as she normally does. All in all the first week we only did a few test doses with no negative effects. The packaging comes clean, the dosing is straightforward and easy to draw up and administer to your animal.

WEEK 2
Part 1
The second week with CBD oil for dogs and Janie has been doing quite well. Janie has been with me for a year now this month, and we have learned a lot and come a long way together. We have found absolutely no ill effects and Janie has a vet appointment coming up, for an annual heartworm test, so she is very healthy and spry. She is much more open to me touching her feet and putting on boots since beginning the CBD oil trial. The CBD seems to help calm her down on walks as well, although it has the curious effect of making her a little extra excited about other dogs and makes her a little more excitable and less easy to recall. I’ve made more progress in caring for and touching her feet in the past 2 weeks with the CBD oil than the year prior, since adopting her from the shelter. I have been rubbing coconut oil onto her paws once to twice a day and it is night and day, her poor dry cracked paws are back to their nice supple and proper form. She has stopped fussing with her feet and licking so much because of the coconut oil and the CBD oil, I would not be able to contain her 65lbs frame myself as Janie is a very strong little dog. The previous attempts at using paw wax were unsuccessful as I could never work the ointment into Janie’s paws well enough to coat and cover her, but no more as with the CBD oil for dogs dose, Janie is easy-going and lets me take the time to properly take care for her. Janie seems extra cuddly usually 30 minutes after dosing and usually full calming effects are realized about an hour after dosing. On days when I dose her with CBD oil, usually around noon, Janie also seems to fall asleep in her den alone much earlier than normal. She usually sleeps with me, but now she seems more comfortable falling asleep on her own. I try to give her a treat along with the dose to help her, but these past two times she has taken the CBD straight with no chaser. I have not tried the CBD oil for myself, but its odor is mild and unobtrusive, so I assume Janie must not mind the taste. The dosing is very easy to draw up accurately and to administer even one-handed if needed. If your dog is a chewer like mine, and they destroy the syringe any food or medical syringe should be able to fit the accompanying stopper.

WEEK 3
Part 1
Janie now takes her CBD oil for dogs with no reward treat or “chaser” as I’ve called it before. She laps the CBD oil right up from the syringe. She has continued to make vast improvements with letting me touch and care for her paws, this week we were even able to get relaxed enough and in a good position to clip her longest nails down on each paw. This is huge for Janie, as she always has chewed at her nails and runs at even the sight of the nail trimmer or slightest mention. Janie is very cuddly when dosed with the CBD oil and likes to be near me or on me. For a 65lbs animal, she fits on your lap nicely. I have noticed it helps her to nap throughout the day during my time away from the apartment, on campus, I have a nanny cam mounted on the wall that I use to check up on her during the day and for most of my time away she is curled up in her little blanket den. Still now in the third week of dosing Janie with CBD oil has yet to have any negative side effects. Her coat and skin are healthy and she is acting like her normal energetic self. We still have some issues with reactivity as when Janie is on the CBD oil she seems extra excited to meet and play with other dogs, but due to her past and strength, it is not safe to let her do so at her leisure. Janie was also having some stomach troubles before the dosing began, and so I also began feeding her smaller portions more often daily at the same time, so that is likely helping, but the CBD oil definitely does not upset her stomach, and my Janie has a very sensitive stomach along with classic pitbull allergies issues. Overall I have witnessed no negative effects with the CBD oil. Depending on how often you choose to dose your dog with CBD oil, a single bottle can last well over a month. I’ve been dosing .5ml for my 65 lb dog about 2-3 times a week the past month, and I still have about a half bottle left. I do recall my old childhood Golden Retrievers who at the end of their lives had many hip and joint issues, I really wish this product had been around then so I could have helped to ease some of their final days. If you are looking for something to help calm your energetic puppy or ease your old dog’s joints, Charlotte’s Web CBD oil for dogs is worth the try.

WEEK 4
Part 1
Janie was able to take her CBD oil for dogs this weekend very willingly, as she was feeding I gave her the dose and she took it right away before going back to her bowl. She always pulls herself away from the bowl to her syringe of CBD oil now and takes no enticing. We had a good day with some long walks in the nice weather, and Janie has made some big strides in reactivity even since starting the CBD oil and she has been very good with other dogs along our route. Her paws are healing up nicely now that the weather is changing and with the continued application of coconut oil. While I cannot prove undisputed the CBD oil helped with me touching Janie’s paws or her reactivity on walks, I will say we have made more progress in the past month over the past year. Janie continues to be extra cuddly when on the CBD oil, and loves to have her belly rubbed sometimes rolling over and over again to get my attention. Janie is a big chewer and never ends up destroying the syringe the package comes with. It is very sturdy plastic and not a choking hazard at all. She doesn’t mind the taste and goes to it easily even after a month of dosing. I personally will keep using the CBD oil in the future to help calm Janie during bath time and high-stress situations involving grooming. She is a finicky dog when it comes to grooming and nail care so I am thankful to have found this product and make both of our lives a little bit easier. I have even begun to incorporate some hemp protein into my diet watching the benefits Janie has experienced. She never seems “high” or out of it after CBD oil dosing, as an anesthetized dog might, she is always her happy little self. I ended our month of testing by doubling Janie’s .5ml dose and looking for any effects. For those worried about proper dosing and sizes, she took the double dose fine, slept through the night very well, and was very excited to see me and play the next morning. She seems to get a little extra cuddly with the CBD oil and I love it, I would highly recommend this product for all those on the fence.
